Relocating from Huntsville AL, Lots of Questions (Tucker, Chamblee: relocation, job)

My husband has found a job in the Chamblee area. We already know traffic is a bear in that area, so we don't want to live too far from his job. We'll need a home in the $200-250 range and we have 4 year old that we'll need daycare for as well. Right now I'm a stay at home mom, but will be going back to work, possibly at Dekalb County DHR (I'm a social worker), but I don't know that for sure.

I'm concerned about getting a bad neighborhood, and I'm particularly not liking what I'm hearing about schools in Dekalb County. Does anyone know the good elementary schools to look for? Especially for homes in our price range?

Also, what's diversity like in Dekalb County? We're an interracial couple (he's white, I'm black), I'd really like to live in a diverse neighborhood, but schools are definitely more important than diversity.

His employer suggested looking in Tucker, but I'm not sure about that either, any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

You will need to do considerable research. There are safe and diverse neighborhoods in Chamblee and Tucker but also significant crime.

Just north of Chamblee is Peachtree Corners which is in Gwinnett County. Safe, good schools, diverse.

The area around Cofer Park in Tucker is nice/safe, etc. Older homes. More stable community in general than Chamblee.
