Yes, it does force people, yet at the same time, you are around people who crave socializing and so it is less work. If you are lucky, you will be around mostly positive people and will enjoy your time. Eventually you may make friends.

Agreed; I hate these overarching generalizations. "Atlantans are all so nice!" "Atlantans aren't friendly, why is that?!"

It's important to remember that "Atlanta" is not a monolithic entity where everyone is part of a hivemind. The metro area is home to almost six million people; we have our share of a-holes, the nicest of the nice, the introverts who just want to be left alone, people who go out of their way to meet new people and make new friends, and so on. You cannot take your experiences with a few people and extrapolate that to most people in a city, as if most of us act the same and have similar personalities; this is especially true in metro Atlanta, where there's a potent mix of transplants from other parts of the country (and the world) and Georgia natives.

I've lived in 8 different cities throughout the country and even overseas. Generally speaking, if you are friendly then the majority of the people you interact with will be friendly or at least polite to you. I'll be coming to Atlanta next week for a short trip, so if I notice anything out of the norm, I'll make a post about it.

I respectfully disagree. You do choose your friends but can't control whether someone is friendly or not. Sometimes you will meet people who are nice or nasty but I wouldn't.go to say that you naturally attract a certain type. I met some people yesterday who weren't so nice. They pretended to be friendly and all caring and I saw the b.s. and had to shut it down. But Then just the other day I was surrounded by positive, warm people, which I embraced. I hope what I am saying makes sense.

Well of course being pro-actively positive towards others doesn't mean EVERY single person you interact with will be positive back, but generally speaking, if you greet and ask people how is their day going etc, you will get positive responses more than not anywhere in the world. If you are the type of person who just doesn't say anything or just says, "meh!" you are likely to have negative experiences most of the time anywhere in the world.

I've lived in 8 cities, 2 countries and traveled around most of the world and this has been my experience.
