Just curious.

I'm guessing that downtown gets a lot of conventioneers and out of town tourists.

What about hot spots like Midtown and Edgewood? How about KSM and PCM? Is that driven by local residents who are walking or taking transit to the local bars and clubs?

From my limited observation of Buckhead and Brookhaven a lot of the patrons look like (a) local residents, (b) business travelers from the hotels or (c) teens or early 20 somethings who have cruised in from the suburbs. Virginia Highland has always pulled some locals, as well as plenty of folks from other intown neighborhoods.

The west side I really don't know, but I could see that pulling in a lot of locals. Likewise with East Atlanta and Inman park.

What about areas? Doesn't DeKalb rule the roost as far as late night clubs nowadays? If so, I wonder if it's the nearby residents or folks driving in from other areas.

What about Cobb, Perimeter and Alpharetta? Sandy Springs?

To what degree do y'all think walkability is playing a role in our nightlife? Are local folks walking down to the local pub or restaurant?

How does transit factor in?

I get the impression (and this is anecdotal) that most people are still driving.

Or using ride-sharing for at least 1 leg. I know my wife and I will ride MARTA and then occasionally use Uber of Lyft to get home.

This is what we do. Typically, we will take MARTA to wherever we are going if it is convenient (usually midtown/downtown), but late night heading back home we will get an uber. We always do this for shows at the Fox (yes, we get on MARTA dressed up and everything!). For somewhere like Edgewood Ave, we Uber both ways. I know the streetcar is there, but from our house, it would be bus-->train-->streetcar (probably about 30 minutes total), whereas Uber is about 7 minutes door to door.

Does anyone much use the streetcar to get to the Edgewood party district? I rode it one evening just out of curiosity and nobody got on or off in that area.

I take MARTA over to East Atlanta if I want to sample the nightlife but I'm usually the only one on the strip catching the bus.

As someone who driven Uber in Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Clemson, and Athens. Those cities nightlight seems to be in a more vibrant and concentrated than Atlanta's nightlife. Even Athens and Clemson has a central night life location near their schools. Atlanta nightlife's is all over the place from Buckhead, Edgewood, East Atlanta, etc. Furthermore I would not be surprised if some drunk pedestrian get hits on Piedmont or Edgewood in the near future. I think the Gulch would make a good central entertainment district with live music venues that caters to more than generic hip hop, edm, etc. I would love of a more Latin, Jazz, Country, Caribbean, and Soulful live music mix without driving all over the place.
