My son sent a message about a restaurant he remembers when visiting Atlanta in his early teens. . This could also have been in Newman area. I am not sure about the spelling. I vaguely remembered it but after searching it became more familiar in my mind. This would have been 70's and maybe late 60's. Thanks for any help!!

Melear's barbecue! i'm sorry to tell you, but it closed a few years ago. it was on state route 85 somewhere around fayetteville. the place was classic... they served everything on lunch trays and when i went in 2006 they still had an antenna TV and mints by the counter. i only got to go once, but the experience was so unique i'll remember it forever. RIP Melears!

^ Yep, that's it, just south of downtown Fayetteville. It also has a scene in the movie Smoky and the Bandit if I recall.

Ahhh, the BEST brunswick stew EVER! I really enjoyed their bar be que, too. Really, Really, Really miss Melear's. They also once had a restaurant in South Fulton north of downtown Fairburn (brothers I think) Giant glasses of sweet, sweet tea, vinegar based coleslaw, That toasted Sunbeam bread. Ohhh I miss Melear's. Nothing like it. Please come back!

Looks like they had some customers with leaky crankcases.

Somebody could've picked up some extra cash selling awl.
