LOL. My car/dash entertainment system allows me to name the stations for the display. I have 94.5 programmed as 'ratchet' (then there's urban, jazz, crossover, old school, talk, etc., etc.) One is labeled Hood/Trap (don't remember which one).

As someone that grew up on Rap/Hip-Hop, I never thought that I would say this:

There are way too many "Hip-Hop" stations in Atlanta!

I listen mainly to 87.7 for what is considered to be "Old School" these days and either 107.5 or 104.1 for a mixture of old and new. V-103 lost me because they talk too much. I outgrew 107.9 about 10 years ago. 94.5 is way too ratchet even for when I feel like hearing some newer stuff. I listen to the other "Old School Hip-Hop" station at times, but their signal is too weak for me to listen to it in some parts of town.

On an unrelated-yet-still-related note, I love Tribe's new album!

There is a time to give it up. I just turned 40 and there are a few people that I went to high school with that are still trying to make it in the hip-hop game. The one that actually made legit albums a few years back has since stopped recording. You don't have to stop loving the music, but there is a time to just get a regular job if you haven't "made it".

For someone who also grew up in the hip-hop culture, its sad that Atlanta has 50 "rap" stations and they all play sub-par music. The old school stations only play the same radio singles from the past, they never dig into the great album cuts and b-sides. The stations playing the current stuff, just play the undecipherable mumble-emo rap crap.

Old School 87.7 is brilliant, feel like they have freshened up the rotation of tunes recently too.

Yeah. Its a mom and pop station and not a corporate station and you can tell by the playlist. I can listen to it for hours straight. They really be rocking on Friday and Saturday night
