It's getting about that time where we buy gifts for people. I hear there is some sort of reason for this season, but the war on Christmas has effectively blocked me from knowing...

Anyways, I thought of a couple of great gift ideas for those who love all things infrastructure/planning/rail/etc. Would love to see any other ideas people have.

- The Works: Anatomy of a City
A phenomenal coffee table type book that has an absolutely incredible amount of detail. Using NYC as an example, it goes over just about every piece of infrastructure in a city with detailed diagrams. I think there are 10 pages on sewage alone. Not boring, very colorful and in depth. Highly recommended.

- Cities Skylines
If you loved Sim City, this is your new crack. You need a pretty decent PC, but you can waste 100s of hours here.

Save 75% on Cities: Skylines on Steam

Please post any other ideas you may have!

SimCity4 is a good gift if they haven't played it and don't have a strong PC. It is THE shining example of City Simulation (though Skylines is in it's own right).

If gaming is definitely something I'd recommend Mini Metro.

It's a minimalistic take on managing public transit layout in a different way than SimCity.

It's reaaaaally good.

I was on SimCity4 WAY too much when I was younger. I still have my files on my computer but I couldn't seem to install the game on it which is odd since I was able to install it fine on my last one which was practically identical. I'm debating buying the download off Amazon

I purchased that a while ago. It seems to run pretty well on modern machines.

There has been an issues with crashes on recent generation Windows and PCs with multiple cores.
Affinity Issues With SimCity4

Good luck!

Also, I recall installing a patch that allowed for the taxation of legal marijuana. That made up like 65% of city revenues and any city always ended up with happier citizens and civic solvency. It made me laugh at the controversy of the algorithm and economic assumptions.

Yea I don't know if was my disks or what. I bought my last computer back in 2013 and it ran fine on that one.

Ha! I don't even remember how many different add-ins I downloaded off of Simtropolis. Definitely didn't download that one!

The latest version of Cities: Skylines has a "recreational use" policy you can enable that makes citizens happier (but increases your police budget, which is dumb).

It's a fun game. Cities in Motion was good too if you particularly enjoy the transit part of the city nerd simulator.

What a bunch of crappy suggestions. You guys ever leave your mother's basement?

Give the kid something that will get him active. All these sedentary loser millennials don't know how to behave anywhere outside their computer screens. Is that the sort of future limiting behavior you want to contribute to?
