2016 was an absolutely stunning year for the area. This thread is just for fun. So save the cynical remarks. Please add your predictions. Let's have some fun.

1. Foreigners will continue to flock to Atlanta especially Midtown and snag up high price real estate. Foreign investors will also invest in new projects for Midtown.
2. Opus the 74 story tower will break ground by June 2017.
3. Mary Norwood will be Atlanta's next mayor.
4. The Trump Administration will partner will local agencies to get transit, airports, and interstates up to par. It will be a strong push for Atlanta to build a six runway.
5. CNN and The Weather Channel will have record ratings for next year.
6. The Falcons will play and beat the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC game.
7. It will be very obvious that the State will not know how to handle Atlanta's growing influence within the city limits. They will take a major blow in power and the horse will actually leave the cart instead of the lesser influencing the greater.

After a few Braves game the Cumberland CID, Cobb County and MARTA will come together to give the area a special designation, allowing HRT from Midtown to SunTrust Park.

Neo Atlanta will rise from the radioactive ashes as the neon shining Capitol of the New Dixie Federation. I, for one, am ready for our cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic future.

1) I can see that happening, but not in the numbers you see in coastal elite cities. Opus may be one of the development where a lot of foreign investment goes into if Opus developers market well in foreign markets.

2)If Opus breaks ground, it won't be until late next year if they even break ground next year. We'll see how pre-sales go.

3)Plausible and possible...but I'm not sure.

4)Probably.

5) CNN had some of the highest ratings in many years during this election. Don't see it happening in 2017. Unless there's multiple big blizzards and violent hurricanes making landfall in US, it's doubtful TWC sees record ratings.

6)I'm thinking this will happen as well. Will rely on Atlanta beating NOLA this coming weekend.

7) Don't see that happening. It'll be a slow growing influence over a long span on time...not neccessarily in 1 year.

I predict that by the end of 2020, one way or another, this whole decades-old ultimate question of MARTA in Cobb and Gwinnett, state funding for transit, unification of transit in general (and regionalism in general), all that will finally, finally reach a resolution, and likely a positive change that makes sense, and will greatly benefit the whole metro. Basically, the thing we've all been hoping for all these years. Something major will change.

But, all that will happen in the year 2017 is more discussion about it, while we normal people sit in increasingly bad traffic.

Atlanta will begin transit expansion on a larger scale thanks to the MARTA sales tax. Streetcar work on connecting the downtown loop to the BeltLine and bus overhaul

I don't know about No. 4, I just don't know if Congress will agree to infrastructure this year with debt and tax cuts. It's been pitched numerous times by Obama, and maybe it's the messenger, but they are still going to give him the stink eye.
