Default Realistic commute: Dallas to Marietta

Hey all,
I currently live in Duluth and work in Marietta (Lockheed). We are considering buying a house in Dallas because we LOVE this house. My commute time now is leaving the house at 6am and getting to work at 7am. This includes a 15 minute stop dropping the kids off to daycare. I leave work at 4:30 and usually get home no later than 6pm. That can be hairy though....afternoon traffic is a........ Anyway, do any of you commute from Dallas to Mareitta. If so, what is your experience. Thanks. If it's not too bad (by Metro Atlanta standards) I think we'll go forth with this house.

Depends on where in Dallas you are. "Dallas" addresses cover a pretty huge area, but I'd say your commute wouldn't be too bad if you're not too far out and not too far from 120- especially at those times. You'd probably be looking at a shorter commute that you currently have by 15-20 minutes.

Default Not too deep

I don't think I'm that deep into Dallas. From 1-75 I take exit 263-S. Marietta Pkwy/Hwy 120. A couple turns here and there and I'm Dallas/Acworth Hwy. The complex isn't that far down off that Hwy.

As Bob said, it depends where at in Dallas -- but I think your new commute would be comparable to your old one. I leave for work at 5:30 a.m., and use many of the same roads you'd be using and they are pretty empty at that time. Mapquest's time and actual time should more or less match up. A word of caution though, on those days I leave around 7 a.m., my commute time is easily doubled.

Coming home will of course be trickier, but if you're already used to an hour and thirty minutes, it shouldn't be much different. Note: heading west on the Dallas Highway early evening is BAD. You should learn the backoads in this area. For obvious reasons, I won't reveal my routes but taking the time to learn some will save you a lot of headache in the long run. The obvious roads out here are terribly congested, but we have many good undiscovered ones.

I'm on the main Interstate heading back home around 4:45pm so I'll be sure to find these undiscovered back roads. Thanks for help!
