According to the report, the compromise legislation would allow for two resort style casinos in the state. One in Atlanta, with an investment of $2 billion, and one in either Columbus, Savannah or Augusta. My money is on Savannah getting the other one.

Quote:
The legislation is not yet available, but new details were confirmed from one of its chief sponsors, state Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta.

If approved, the state would create a new gaming commission modeled after Nevada. The commission would issue up to two licenses. One in the Atlanta license would require an investment of $2 billion, and a secondary state license for elsewhere in Georgia would need at least a $450 million investment.

The “resorts” would be taxed at 20 percent, well above the industry’s preferred rate of about 12 percent and much closer to Gov. Nathan Deal’s preferred rate of 24 percent.

Beach said 70 percent of proceeds from gaming would go toward the state’s popular Hope Scholarship, a merit-based state-funded college scholarship program. The other 30 percent would go toward a new needs-based scholarship.

Unlike earlier versions, the legislation would not legalize betting on horse racing. Beach said the scaled back effort was more palatable to colleagues hesitant to expand gambling in Georgia.

The legislation will be introduced in both chambers. State Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Savannah, will carry the bill in the House. The chairman of the Economic Development and Tourism Committee said the bill should be available Tuesday afternoon.

There is a huge push for one in downtown Columbus. Plans have been made for a $200 million project. Should be interesting.

Nothing about Columbus is interesting.

Also needs to just be more than slots. I see nothing in the article indicating it would be higher than lowest class gambling. If you don't want horse racing I assume you don't want blackjack, poker, roulette etc. either. At the tax rate they have no way can they survive with just slots. Its hard to do that even at just the usual 10-12% rate.

Casino should be downtown and not at the airport unless they want two casinos within metro Atlanta imo.

Yeah closer look tells me they'd likely have at least blackjack. Roulette and craps tend to be extraordinarily hard to push through. Some states that have had casinos for years still do not have roulette and craps. Poker usually comes down to the casino manager. It's not generally a big money maker and most casino managers hate it for that reason so you never know what will come of that.

It will probably be a casino with a hotel, dozens of restaurants/shops, arena, etc. Similar to the new casino in MD/DC at the National Harbor
