Wanting to rent a condo before buying
My son will be moving to Atlanta right after he graduates from college in a couple of months. At first he was thinking of buying a condo, but after talking to his future boss, he has decided to rent first and get to know the area. My question is this: There seem to be quite a few condos on the MLS listing. Can the same realtor show him all the condos, just as they would if he was buying? Does his realtor still get some sort of commission? Are there any other good sources for renting a condo in Atlanta? Thanks.

Where is he looking? I have a friend looking to rent and eventually sell his 1BR in the Aramore on Peachtree-- great building in between Buckhead and Midtown. If you want his info, PM me.

Wow - show all the condos in Atlanta? According to FMLS - there are 11,155 condo listings in the system.
It would be very easy to narrow down the appropriate building for your son to be in based on the following criteria:
1. Price range
2. Location and proximity to his new job (traffic can be a bear in Atlanta)
3. Lifestyle and amenities - would he want access to a pool, concierge, etc...
4. Number of bedroom(s) and bath(s)
craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums would be a great place to check for rentals. As real estate agents, most of us do not show condos for rent unless they are listed in our system for rent. Most rentals are with are private individuals. So, if they are not on a lockbox - then I have no access to showing the unit and no commissions would be paid.
Depending on what area that he is looking in, I would be glad to spend half a day showing him some of the highlights of the condo market.
Good luck to him!
