this is great, but it also needs to be acknowledged that many of the people are renters who will not be able to benefit from this. i like that idea arjay posted early on about the lofts that are lower-priced, that is a step in the right direction.

but frankly some of the pro-gentrification rhetoric i've seen in this thread is disgustingly inhuman and really shows what the true motivation is behind so much 'neighborhood improvement'.

Sort of listened while working--My take on the interview was that there are some developers that don't see any value in what is there now, and there are some folks with money that mean well (Cathy and Blank) and will do their best , but they don't know the neighborhood , so if folks want to have a say on how their neighborhood is improved/redeveloped, they will have to speak up and be their neighborhood's advocate--because no one else is going to do it.
