Here lately I have posted several threads about moving to the area and I think I have made my mind up with where it is I want to reside and wanted to know what the Commute is like from either Henry county or Douglas county to the Atlanta area and does marta run through those counties or would I have to perhaps park and ride. I think that would be a good idea to learn the area especially being that I will be new to the area ..What y'all think? All comments are welcome and appreciated!!!!

I don't think Marta runs to either Douglas or Henry. I believe it terminates at the airport on the south end and somewhere in west Atlanta on the west side.

I lived in Douglas between 2001-2003 and commuted downtown 5 days a week. Most days my one way commute was under 30 minutes, unless there was construction or accidents. Of course, a lot more people live there now than 5 years ago, so it's probably become worse. The area I lived in (Thornton Rd.) definitely went downhill in the 2 years I was there. I'd recommend looking out in Villa Rica or Douglasville if you choose Douglas.

Never lived in Henry, but traffic coming from that end is much heavier because you have legions of people going between Florida and the northern states on I-75 in addition to commuting locals.

The commute from Douglas is getting significantly worse as the years go by, thanks to everyone and their mother, best friend, and cousin moving out here! When I purchased my house in '04, the news stations rarely mentioned I-20 westbound past Six Flags Drive. Now, you hear them mention the traffic near the Lee Road, Fairburn Road, and Chapel Hill Road exits on a frequent basis.

We do have 2 Park and Ride routes operated by XpressGA out here: one to Midtown Atlanta and another to Downtown Atlanta.
Xpress GA - Route 460
Xpress GA - Route 461

The nearest MARTA stop is the Hamilton Holmes station...and on a good traffic day (on the weekend or mid-day) that's about 25 minutes away.

I think Douglasville is okay...it's this sleepy Atlanta suburb. Everything out here is generally family oriented with a slight rural twist. Crime isn't really a huge problem out here. We have the typical big box stores, with a number of smaller independent shops.

Schools aren't the greatest in my opinion, but they aren't the worst. The one school cluster I highly suggest you avoid is one that feeds into Stewart Middle. As a Douglasville taxpayer, I think the school could be doing a lot better than it is presently.

Bottom line, Douglas County is great if you want to raise your kids in a semi-rural environment that is relatively close to Atlanta. If you want diversity (and I don't mean black/white diversity) then this isn't the place for you. You'll go stir crazy once the novelty of the low cost of living wears off in about...1-2 years.

I apologize for my response being a bit fragmented...I'm tired

Oh no that was just what I needed thanks a bit . Since I am relocating from a different area /state that is much needed I think I may strongly consider Douglassville or Villa Rica

henry county's commute to Atlanta is TERRIBLE. It literally takes 1 and a half hours to get from Atlanta to Mcdonough during rush hour, i don't really know about douglas county's commute is probably the same as henry county.
