We moved to Newnan last summer and love it! Our main focus was on Bremen, Newnan and Peachtree City. My husband works in Carrollton so the commute from Bremen and Newnan seemed to be the best (we quickly ruled out PTC when we saw the amount of street lights you need to get through, it would have added quite a bit of time to his commute).
We really loved Bremen. I had researched the schools on the net (Bremen City schools are rated very well) and we toured the elementary school. It was really nice. They were very friendly and welcoming. The community is small and really quaint. There are several restaurants and a Walmart located in Bremen and there is plenty of shopping nearby in Carrollton. The only reason we ruled out Bremen was due to the difficulty we had finding a home in our price range with a decent sized yard. (we wanted at least a couple of acres). The new homes we looked at were very well built and in some lovely neighborhoods but the lots were just too small for us. It really seemed to us that the builders in Bremen do give you a lot of bang for your buck in regards to what extras they put in the homes.
We chose Newnan and couldn't be happier. We found a new 5 bedroom home on a couple of acres for under $300,000. The school system our kids are in is top notch. The three schools they will attend received some of the highest scores in the state (for public schools). We came from New England where the schools are ranked above average. The classes and programs that are available to my children offer them much more than they ever had up north. We really couldn't be happier with our school district. With that being said, I am aware that not all of the schools in Newnan are on the same level and you really have to do the research. There is plenty of shopping here in Newnan, including the new develpment "Ashley Park". There are also a lot of restaurants to choose from, not just the chain restaurants but some really great family run ones as well. It seems that this part of Georgia is usually a few degrees cooler than most of the state, I have been told it has something to do with the winds that blow through Newnan. (not sure if that is a fact).
You can look at schools' stats at schoolmatters.com, greatschools.net and Georgia's Department of Education web site.
Good luck with your relocation!
