That's why there's a streetcar planned. Whether it actually gets built or not, now that's a good question. Hopefully they're already planning this with MARTA and City Hall. This needs to happen and it needs to happen fast.

Turner Field was really a lousy location for a ball field and a poor use of that land.

I think they also want to start smaller and build the bigger / high-rise stuff later, closer to downtown. Also, yeah, streetcar.

The team redeveloping Turner Field announced Monday that it has proposed a long-term agreement to four groups designated to represent the surrounding neighborhood. The team also met, reportedly, with a group of more strident neighborhood advocates who have called for greater community involvement from the development team – a demand that has gained some level of support from some Atlanta City Council members.

There was an article not long ago where GSU/Carter Reps said that they plan to have at least some of the existing buildings along Georgia Ave filled with restaurant/retail by Fall 2017. They said that they knew the student housing wouldn't be completed yet, but that they hoped this initial early opening would start bringing people back into the area to see its potential. Did you see any of this information at Streets Alive?

Seeing as I live very close to Georgia Ave, and a short walk from this development, I'm very disappointed I didn't make it out for Streets Alive. Didn't want to bring the little one out in the heavy rain

I would imagine there would be a momentary pause in traffic, via a signal activated when a train is ready to cross.

It would momentarily defeat the purpose of the round-about, but at all other times, it's still in place as designed.

Of course, the roundabout could also be removed when streetcars / light rail is ready to be implemented, or built large enough for the trains to use the roundabout like any other vehicle.
