Florida Panhandle.

Destin to Panama City Beach.

Easy drive from here.

How do these destinations compare to Tybee/ Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach

I lived on Tybee for a year and it's a special place, but if I wanted a beach vacation I'd 100% opt for the Florida panhandle like PKCorey suggested; somewhere along county road 30A. Less commercialized than Hilton Head, more beautiful beaches and water than Tybee.

Just what do you want out of the experience besides a beach? So far we're talking about places that have a very disparate feel from each other besides having a coastal location.

Panama City Beach.

Gets a bad rap because of the Spring Breakers, but the fact is it's 30 minutes closer than Destin and it has way more to do. It's been built up a lot with nice condos, so the "redneck riviera" label isn't nearly as true as it used to be. I highly prefer it to Destin, myself.

Hilton Head is also nice. It really depends on what you prefer...there are Atlantic coast people and Gulf coast people. Atlantic coast has better surf, but smaller beaches with coarse sand. The Gulf is calm, but it has that crystal clear water and powder white sand.

Either coast can get unexpected thunderstorms and problems like seaweed or jellyfish without much warning. They just have different feels, and most people tend to prefer one over the other (I think I'm a rare breed that pretty much likes them both....but Hilton Head's lack of a water park stands out as a thorn in its side to me).

What "more" does it have to do? Destin has really built up in the last 10-15 years.

We do San Destin. That's our favorite.

Charleston-Isle of Palms-can be nice, but its a different type of feel.

Panama City and Myrtle Beach remind me of each other, but with nicer beaches and water in Panama City.

Haven't been to Hilton Head, but a number of people from Atlanta do go there.

If you want to do less driving, maybe you fly to Tampa and stay in St. Petersburg or Sanibelle.
