Default I am planning to move to Atlanta, GA

Hello,
I am planning to move to Atlanta or some surrounding cities. I am single, so I'm very concerned with crime because my job require I work nights. I will be looking for a one bedroom apartment. My price range is $650 to 800. Can anyone please give me some ideas so I will know where to start. My family is freaking out and I don't think they believe me. My goal is to move in February.

Good point and as for apartments in good areas, expect to be north of 800.00

Are you talking about moving NEXT February? I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself planning-wise.

Take it from someone who has moved a lot, you can't plan far enough in advance for an out of state move. In at least one situation (moving from Atlanta to Boston), I basically waited until about 6 weeks before I moved to do any saving or planning, and encountered several nightmarish circumstances as a result.

If you're trying to get a feel for rent prices for next year, I would just get the prices that are out now and add 50 to 100 bucks to them.

Or more. Due to the housing slump, rents have continued to increase in all larger apartment markets since many are renting instead of buying. The demand has increased, so rents have gone up. It wouldn't surprise me if the slump continues, that in some areas of town next year a 1BR is $150 -$200 more than they are now if they can get by with it. I predict $1000 a month to be the norm intown for a 1BR by then.

You really should pick a place based on where you will work. It's tough for us to give suggestions without that. Metro Atlanta is huge.

Without anything else to go on, I can only suggest central locations. I'd look at brownstones and rental houses in the area around M-West II (you can google it) in West midtown/Bankhead. Stay away from Bankhead Highway and you should be fine.

I planned for February because I should have the money saved that I wanted. What would you suggest for my timeframe? If I haven't found a job, or my money is not right, than I will wait. I can't afford to have any nightmarish circumstances because I don't know anyone in Atlanta.
I haven't found a job yet, I'm a polysomnographic tech (diagnostic sleep studies) and there are several labs in Atlanta. I plan to start contacting them soon so I can start narrowing down my area. I'll let you all know the area once I found out so I can get a feel for how much rent I'll pay.

Another mover here... ditto to that. It's not that I enjoy moving in and of itself, but I am simply getting closer to the thing I truly want each move... or... fulfilling different goals and/or dreams each time. Simply bc a person is "checking out" a place, doesn't mean that is what a person wants. Sometimes you just need to try it on for size to see if it fits... travel, ask questions, ask ppl who have been there, moved there, left from there - for as long as it takes you to find yourself in that place that you want.

I find that I have often ended up in the places I traveled the most or of which I dreamed that I had wanted to travel. If ATL floats your boat - go for it! And if it doesn't work the way you had hoped, try someplace new. There are plenty of places in the world - even in this country - which are truly beautiful and have much to offer. It just depends on what you want, when you want it, and what you are willing to give/pay to get that thing you want. Enjoy the process - the planning, the moving, the arrival. Life is a journey...

Default do not book on spirit or orbitz when you fly

My 22 year old son, Senior Airman , active military, got to the atlanta airport at 1109am for a 1150am flight out from Atlanta (base in Valdosta) to come home for a few days leave. The traffic due to the tornado cleanup was horrific. He leaves for the sandbox next week. Because he arrived late, he was not allowed on his flight. Spirit cancelled the reservation..meaning he couldnt use it to come to Florida to visit home nor would they allow him to take the last leg of the flight. They wanted him to purchase another ticket.

He went home via Air Tran and they saw he was active military and upgraded him to business class. Spirit and Orbitz refused to refund, rebook, send out a voucher..etc. Very poor treatment especially for our military
