Hey, guys, what is this area really like? Has recently come up on my radar as a possible retirement relocation site. That quartz mountain is so cool and the housing prices are soooo low! What is the fatal flaw???? Climate looks decent, I read people are nice.....don't mind gentrification if it doesn't wind up as crowded and overpriced as Seattle! Any info is appreciated!

Really bad schools, and somewhat high crime.

But that's also why it's a quite affordable area.

If you don't need public schools and you really research the neighborhoods you are interested in--I think there are places you could live nicely in Stone Mountain. There are enough inexpensive rentals that you might rent before you buy.

But, I would not depend on expectations of high appreciation. Someone will eventually do well there financially--but who knows when.

The bones are there. The Village and the neighborhoods immediately adjacent to it are really very charming.

Stone Mountain has MANY nice communities, and some not so nice ones. Sticking around the state park or in the Stone Mountain historic district should be a safe bet. The primary place to avoid would be the many aging apartment complexes in the Memorial Drive corridor and anything immediately adjacent. Those are the places that have the higher crime stats and ironically many of those, while in the Stone Mountain zip code, ARE NOT inside Stone Mountain City limits.
