Yes. I mean we just a 0.5% sales tax increase to fund transit improvements IN THE CITY. 0.4% sales tax increase to fund transportation projects. Let the rest of the metro stew in congestion. The City of Atlanta is taking steps to provide it's residents, workers, and visitors transportation options. The increased sales tax appears to have not scared away businesses or residents; as we see more corporate relos and housing demand is ridiculous right now.

Agreed. I'd love to have the MMPT, but the state will need to step up to the plate for that to happen. City alone should not be funding regional transportation nor should we hold back development in the Gulch for another couple decades in hope.

I dunno if it's necessarily dead. There is a whole lot of gulch. And the MMPT would only need one piece of it.

There's this gulch east of Forsyth right next to Five Points Station:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7546.../data=!3m1!1e3

Would be great to see something built there, and also would be great to see a tower or at least mid-rise building replace that horribly location-inappropriate single story building between Forsyth and Broad.

Then there's the huge gulch between Ted Turner and Forsyth:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7546.../data=!3m1!1e3

Would love to see a nice adaptive re-use on the Atlanta Constitution building, and then the rest of this turned into a mixed-use Atlantic Station type deal, with mid-rises and towers, and parking deck below the street level. And new streets.

Seems like they could at least leave the space open down there for the MMPT to be built somewhere around one of those.

I hope the MMPT is still left as a possibility too, but I don't think it is worth holding up redeveloping the area over it.

We will see. Sounds like more details will come next week.

They need to build something right here, over this mini-gulch:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7563.../data=!3m1!1e3

Like a hotel tower or something, with retail. It's right outside the door of the Phillips, without even having to cross the street.

Also right next to The Benz.

You might want to check more recent suburban demographic statistics.

The state has been a massive benefactor to downtown Atlanta. In addition to keep its thousands of office workers there, it has built many major office buildings there. And public spaces such as the Dome, Centennial Olympic Park, the World Congress Center and its plaza, and the new Liberty Plaza. It's going to develop a 42 story hotel next to the GWCC. And don't forget Georgia State. And, oh yeah, the freeway system. The Capitol. The new judicial center. The creation of MARTA.

A lot of those seem like things the state is SUPPOSED to do when it comes to its capitol city.

I get the feeling the folks behind the Hard Rock Hotel knew something before we did...
