Are there any pictures of what the typical Smart Corridor looks like?

I have read the website but am not fully understanding what this entails. Is this to enable self-driving cars?

I've ridden down the hills on North Ave on a bike and a skateboard. It is by the grace of little baby Jesus that I'm still here to tell tales about it.

The demonstration project, which would take place along North Avenue between the Georgia Tech campus and Ponce City Market, would be a critical step to eventually having cars autonomously drive around the city. It is part of the national "Smart City" program that Atlanta is participating in.

I used to do it every day when I worked on Ponce. This was back in the '90s. I would get air 50 times thanks to all the tree roots in the street. No way I'd do that now. Traffic wasn't so bad back then.

Collecting data and sending it to the AVs, buses, etc.

I bet it helps a lot with bus bunching, too.

Sounds great, seriously. Do you know when it's slated to go operational?

On September 14, like any other day, a car will leave the Georgia Tech campus, turn onto North Avenue, and travel a mile and a half due east through Midtown and the Old Fourth Ward to reach Ponce City Market.

What’s different: This car—part of a joint pilot project by Tech and City Hall among others—will be guided on its voyage by a network of sensors, transmitters, Wi-Fi hotspots, GPS receivers, and other gizmos installed along the route and embedded in the vehicle that provide the real-time information needed to avoid obstacles and follow traffic rules. A person will be behind the wheel in case technology fails, but a computer will be in charge.
