This IS what I want to see getting done all over Atlanta! Starting with the main roads of course! Well done!

Transit stuff and bike stuff aside, Atlanta needs more left-turn lanes, all around the city. Even at the expense of losing a travel lane.

It's the thing I hate about driving in the city vs. in the suburbs. The left travel lane of main city arterials is essentially useless. You can't drive in that lane, as you just know that someone ahead of you will inevitably be stopping to wait to turn left, holding you and everyone else up behind them.

And while they're doing that, get rid of the right-turn lanes in the city, like this anti-pedestrian garbage:

Pedestrians have to cross the road twice, just so cars can speed through right turns without slowing down to make a turn.

This a valid argument, but that intersection @ Monroe and Ponce is an acute angle. Because it's a "tight right" with a single lane's width to do it in, it's tough to navigate in larger vehicles. There is pretty much *always* someone waiting to turn left headed the other way on Monroe, so something like a box van or straight truck would probably just get stuck and block the entire lane until traffic cleared the other direction and they could swing into the oncoming lanes.

I couldn't agree more with all your points. Protected left turn lanes at signalized intersections and removal of slip lanes.

I guess the thing I object to is the ped island, and peds having to so much width to cross:

How about instead of the ped island, put a smaller curve right there. And sidewalk where the slip is now.

Tighter turns also get cars to slow down a bit, which is good for everybody.

The south side of that intersection is much better:

I'm just glad the chaos of the old lines intermixed with new lines on North Ave is over. It was insane driving on North last week. It was negligent to allow cars to travel on the road like that.

Oh hell yes, thanks cq!

Nearly the entirety of this project is part of my commute. I've noticed more congestion and some not so optimal light timing, but I'm just looking for changes at this point. Looking forward to what's to come.
