It's important to note, that rent/housing is significantly more in Buckhead/Midtown than in Alpharetta. I don't think the income is that different. It's your preference on what area you like better.

Read this and thought of this thread.

Cousins Properties Inc. (NYSE: CUZ) confirmed on a recent earnings call, Amazon’s plans to double its office footprint in Buckhead.

On July 10, Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported Amazon’s (Nasdaq: AMZN) plans to build out more than 21,000 square feet at Terminus 200, a 25-story tower owned by Atlanta-based Cousins.

wat.

There's like 600+ tech companies here. ~200 service/consulting companies, 20 biotech/pharm, 52 health IT/medtech, 48 Fintech, I know of at least 15 enterprise and COLO type data centers, 22 data/and virtual hosting companies, and at least 105 software dev companies. Plus municipal fiber.

There's a reason why it's called the tech city of the south.

Also at least 25% of Atlanta's Top 25 tech employers are located here.

As for a commute on a weekend - depends on events/where you're going. 10am? Easy peasy.

I compared Midtown programmer jobs with a 5 mile radius, and Alpharetta jobs with a 5 mile radius.

Alpharetta has 4 over $100,000, while Midtown has 43. I know that there's more to tech jobs than programming, but just wanted to start with a baseline.

I don't doubt that there is no shortage of jobs in Alpharetta. It just seems like more Georgia based gravitate towards Alpharetta, while the more global/national lean towards Midtown/Buckhead. Per capita, sure Alpharetta may have more tech jobs, but I don't know how relevant that # is.

This is from today's Business Chronicle.

Alpharetta has a ton of tech outfits, per capita or otherwise. Development, testing, consulting, training, business side, tech sales, all of that stuff.

Microsoft already has an office in Alpharetta off of Mansell, and about to have an even bigger one at Avalon when the building opens.

NCR (the formerly Radiant Systems office) is still up there until the end of this year.

Then there's Verifone, Scientific Games, ADP, E-Trade, LexisNexis, Equifax, Verint, Fiserv, Lancope, Agilysis, McKesson, Verizon Wireless, Hi-Rez Studios (video game developer- they make Tribes PC game), Hewlett Packard, Siemens, AT&T (big office on Windward), Teradata, Alcon, Priority Payment Systems, Worthix... sure I'm leaving out a bunch.

Problem with many tech jobs in ATL now, is that they dont want to pay what someone should get, they go the contractor route instead.

I would first, find out what types of jobs/employers you like. Maybe even line up a job before you commit to anything.

After you find a job, you can convert from a month to month rental to a year lease or something.
