Atlanta's Radical Plan to Reduce H2O Runoff - Curbed Atlanta
Quote:
But now, according to Patch, Atlanta is hoping to offset the effects of runoff in the city, aiming to reduce it by as much as 225 million gallons a year. To lend some perspective, that's enough to fill 341 Olympic swimming pools, or 426 million two-liter bottles.
Turner Field neighborhoods are currently being retrofitted with the permeable pavers. http://atlanta.curbed.com/2015/11/6/...r-turner-field

I love this kind of eco-urban design. It makes the engineer part of me all tingly.

I'll admit it, I got a chubby watching the video. Not only does it work, but the pavers look awesome.

Yeup. The pavers and overflow parks are an excellent example of the good balance of aesthetics meeting functionality. That, to me, is where you run into the truly beautiful, not simply the pretty, urban projects. Yeah it all looks a bit raw now since it's fresh, but given time to be weathered and worn in, these projects will probably be a staple of these neighborhoods' identities.

NACTO just released a new design guide and it deals with managing stormwater through street design!

Quote:
The Urban Street Stormwater Guide illustrates a vision of how cities can utilize one of their best assets—streets—to address resiliency and climate change while creating public spaces that are truly public, and nurturing streets that deliver social and economic value while protecting resources and reconnecting natural ecological processes.
