That should be extended to Galveston.

The company doesn't really have interest in that. Then you have to go more through heavily developed areas. In California, there is a huge cost for the last 10-20 miles into San Francisco and into Los Angeles on their high speed rail.

Can't really get excited for stuff like this because it'll probably be 2050 before it actually happens.

No, Brightline exists in a unique situation. Brightline's parent company owns the track the trains operate on, and a large portion of real estate along those tracks. This is just a way to increase the value of the company's real estate holdings just like the old private "streetcar" companies around Atlanta that were really real estate companies that just ran streetcar service to make their properties valuable. Such a situation doesn't exist anywhere else.

I am very much aware of all of this. Their parent is Florida East Coast RR, the same one that Henry Flagler built.

And I totally disagree with your logic, so no - you are wrong. See how that works?

Uh...what? What logic? I presented nothing more than facts, no logic involved.

These people know real estate, and they are about to deliver a product that is superior to Amtrak as well.

The mere fact that they are conducting feasibility studies to connect Jacksonville with Atlanta before they've even expanded Brightline to Jax is pretty telling. For all we know they could be negotiating with the State to be investors in the MMPT in exchange for development rights. Who knows?

What I do know is that they're savvy and are using the Hong Kong model of linking transit with real estate. It would be foolish to underestimate them.
