Default PhD at G Tech, any good places to live?

I've been visiting the site for a while, and I figure I would live at Midtown or V. heights. Are there any other places to live near G. Tech that are safe and reasonability priced ($700-900 or cheaper)?

I'm trying to get real opinion on the city and where to live.

Since you will be attending school at GaTech, I would suggest you look into on campus housing for Graduate students. Tech is in an excellent location for almost everything the city has to offer. However, if your price point is for single occupancy living you will be hard press to find anything affordable, although you may find a one bedroom duplex in the area. I would first look to see what type of on campus housing they provide.

At that price point, your best bet in midtown is to look at older apartment buildings...less amenities, more "character"...

Look in midtown around Piedmont Park. I actually have a friend who rents two basement apts. on 9th Street. Great people. If you're in the area drive around and see who posts signs.

Also check around Home Park. A lot of GATech students live over there.
