An 8 year old boy found a gun under the bench in the dressing room in the Adidas store at Lenox. He thought it might be a toy.

Fortunately, his mom had the good sense to take the gun away and pull the trigger to verify whether it was a toy or a real gun. The bullet went harmlessly into the dressing room wall.

But for her quick thinking somebody could have been hurt.

She should have been charged with reckless endangerment.

Yep, always assume it's real and never pull the trigger.

Assuming that everything in the story is true. "Good sense" is probably overstating the Mom's actions a bit. Just happy no one was hurt.

Smart mom? As a gun owner and a Mom I beg to differ.

"Police say "there was minimal damage to the wall" from the gunshot." Oh thank goodness, I was worried.

Give her credit for recognizing that a .22 doesn't have the penetrating power of a larger caliber weapon and that the bullet was therefore less likely to go through the wall and injure someone in the next booth.

If she'd simply left the gun lying there the next person who came in could have picked it up and mistakenly discharged it in a dangerous direction.

What about taking it to a clerk and calling security?
