I didn’t know that Dallas was such a close contender.

So much for the hair-brained theory that Bezos wanted to pick a location he could turn blue.

That theory can still apply if he picks Virginia (which right now is a swing state).

They have the American Airlines HQ and the Southwest Airlines HQ, plus AT&T recently left a big part of Atlanta for Dallas.

That's debatable.

Dallas has all of the downsides of Atlanta but without the universities. Texas has UT Austin, Rice, TAMU, and Texas Tech, but none of them are in DFW. I thought the one of the preferrences was for universities within the metro area. You really can’t get any closer than GT's location to Midtown/Downtown, and then Emory is only a few miles out with UGA being on the edge of Metro Atlanta.

Even though I dislike Boston, I really thought they were going to win it. I guess COL really killed their chances. It makes sense for DC to get it from a political standpoint of course.

I’m not really sure Atlanta really needs Amazon or would want it. I don’t know the exact timeline for hiring and moving employees here, but to put it in perspective, the two World Trade Center buildings housed fewer than 50,000 employees. Only a select few college campuses in the US have over 50,000 students on them. It would transform Atlanta, but I don’t think it’d be good transformation.

COL isn’t really a huge factor if they go with VA. Virginia housing in Crystal City and Alexandria is still very expensive for most people. If nyc is also still a contender, it further proves COL is on the back burner.

Boston most likely didn’t throw them enough incentives also their airport is very small. NYC and DC Are bigger hubs which gives them the edge even though COL is high.

In retrospect ATL didn’t really fit into amazon culture or where they want to head. It was a nice little competition and it speaks volumes for ATL to even be considered
