It has grown tremendously and now is carrying a lot of people. Everett is the farthest North on the line, but it's only 30 miles from Seattle. Windward is a similar distance from Atlanta for comparison.

Now it does not have to be significantly different. But in many ways it is "inferior." New York City would never replace its heavy rail with light rail. It wouldn't work.
Light rail can do all 3 of those things. It just typically doesn't:

Not only are we actully included in this article, but we get the longest section! Maybe CNN is showing some love for its hometown?

8 cities fit for Amazon's second headquarters | CNN Tech

Atlanta

Amazon said its second headquarters should have easy access to an airport with direct flights to Seattle, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C. Atlanta has the advantage of being a major air travel hub that's within a two-hour flight from 80% of the U.S. population, according to the city government.

Atlanta is also already home to many corporate headquarters, which could help with recruiting.

"Let's say you need a specialist, such as a chief financial officer, and you're able to say that [your company is] located in a city with multiple company headquarters, that makes it a more attractive job offer," Ravi Madhavan, a professor at University of Pittsburgh business school, told CNN Tech. "In the back of their mind, [job candidates] might think, 'What if this doesn't work out?'"

Another Atlanta advantage is the presence of Georgia Institute of Technology, a natural place for recruiting future workers given its strong engineering program. For example, NCR Corporation, which makes payment terminals and other consumer technologies, is relocating its offices near the campus. It believes the location will help attract talent.

Jeffrey Hu, a business professor at Georgia Tech, said the city's growing entertainment industry could also be appealing to Amazon. The tech company has expanded rapidly into video with Prime Video, and more films were produced in Georgia than California in 2016. Investment bank J.P. Morgan estimated Amazon will spend $4.5 billion on content in 2017.

I'm very familiar with Seattle. With only a handful of rush hour trains 30 minutes apart, no midday service, no night service and no weekend service unless there is a big game I would call it barely adequate for such a gridlocked area. Have you ever seen I-5 in Seattle?

You can't see it. It's covered in cars.

Impact of potential Amazon move to Atlanta - CBS46 News

Seems like Egbert Perry is making a serious push for Amazon and Doraville Assembly. Dirt’s already being pushed. I wonder if they would buy out Serta’s plans there.

A little of everything and everyone, rich and poor, thrives on Buford Highway. It's the main street for Doraville, a town where Amazon could be enticed to locate.

A prominent developer with a dream for the old General Motors plant here says Amazon could alter the town in wonderful ways.

"They have potential, Amazon does, to be transformative to the region," says developer Egbert Perry.

LOL! So true. That also goes for the 405, the 90, the 520 and the City streets as well.

I absolutely love Seattle, and would kill to have their Downtown. We may be on the cusp of getting our own version, who knows. But it is an absolutely beautiful City & region, and they do a lot of things right.

Traffic isn't one of them. Even with the amazing bus network, pretty basic commuter rail and a soon to be massively expanded LRT system, their traffic makes ours feel like Birmingham's - it's that bad.

We almost moved there a few times several years back, but I don't regret staying here. The cost of living for the space you get now, coupled with other issues in Puget Sound would be a big downgrade at this point in time for us.

I really do love Atlanta though, and I'm glad we stayed put. The equivalent of our 2 bed, 2 bath 1,300 sq ft condo with a small but nice yard in a similar area is 4 times the price out there. That's very hard to justify.

Besides, it's only 4 1/2 hours away whenever we need a fix.

Not that I'd be upset or anything, but I would be surprised if that's where HQ2 ended up. It seems like Amazon would want something a bit closer to the core, for easier reach in all directions, by transit or otherwise.

If Amazon picks us, I don't think it'll be so much on the periphery.
