I'd say the airport and our position as a gargantuan logistics hub seals the deal for the ATL.

The busiest airport with the most flights. They can leave Atlanta at 10am and be in Seattle at 11am Seattle time for a meeting (this rules out most cities)
I doubt that is needed. Again access is a plus, but this 2017, it's unlikely someone needs to leave Atlanta at 10 to be in Seattle that soon. Video conferencing etc will be used. If it's that urgent that people be at the same place, they wouldn't open up a new HQ.

Entirely plausible. In their own words:

"Several years ago we outgrew our space and we made a conscious choice to invest in downtown Seattle—even though it would have been cheaper to move to the suburbs. "

Their current campus is sandwiched between Capitol and Lower Queen Anne Hills.

I'd think they would want a strong university system for more than just recruiting purposes though.

Atlanta checks off just about all of the boxes Amazon is looking for. I don't see how we're not on the short list for this. Tech companies have chosen Atlanta for a lot of the same reasons (NCR, etc.).

True, R&D is likely in the mix. It's a question I guess how much the proximity matters.
