One of the nicer things about moving Intown has been that our kids' schools have Ultimate (frisbee) teams in both middle and high school. It may not seem like a big deal--but, especially for middle school, it is nice to have a sport where kids with varying amounts of athleticism can compete in a safe and friendly way, get some exercise, and be social (the middle school teams are co-ed, but have some girls-only games--high schools field boy's and girl's teams). Really, the parents and kids from all of the teams I have seen have been pretty nice.
I think it is more of an Intown thing, Grady-Inman, Paideia, Lakeside-Henderson, Decatur, etc., but suburban schools, including Brookwood and Northview, also compete. Even tiny schools like Ben Franklin Academy are able to field teams. Inman Middle currently has over 100 kids playing on teams--guessing there are about 25-30 girls.
Currently, most of the teams seem to come from schools with wealthier areas, but the equipment required is minimal--a disc and a field, of course there are more costs and logistics than that--but, I think that just about any school could benefit from having a team.

I am glad to see Ultimate catching a second wind. Perfect for middle and high schoolers!
