Remember the guy who proposed the multiple high-rises just outside of Gainesville, some big high-end resort type area along Lake Lanier featuring multi-million dollar condos? Got a bunch of residents and some politicians pretty excited about it? But was cagey about his past and his financing? If you've been in Atlanta 15 years and you've followed development, you probably recall this.

And then when people started investigating him, it turned out he hadn't really done anything, and he'd made a similar proposal in Troy, Michigan?

Hmm.

Seriously. Sounded like they were interviewing Martin Shkreli about his new building.

Seems that the ultra-luxury condo market is pretty tapped out.

The tower that never was.

It would be great for Atlanta to support building something this tall that is residential. Perhaps the city isn't ready yet.

Brokers for the project — called No2 Opus Place — say they have dozens of buyers who have committed to buying units in the building, some of which are being offered for north of $10M. But many real estate brokers and experts who Bisnow spoke to have doubts that it will ever get built.

Several announced dates for an official groundbreaking have come and gone, the developers continue to refinance the land with short-term loans, and the construction firm working on the site told Bisnow there are no plans to go vertical anytime soon. “Opus, which we call ‘Nopus,’” said Jeffrey Taylor Johnson, the founder of Above Atlanta Brokers, among the top condo brokerage firms in Atlanta. “It's a joke.”

Yep. I figured this would never happen. Haven't they been talking about going vertical for 2 years now? And all of this during a supposed "booming" economy too. This should have been up by now.

I really wanted this project to happen! They really tried
The building is literally half commercial space now. Units have even been significantly reduced starting in 600s. I just think theres so many other options out there.

The city is flooded with townhomes of every kind at the moment. Its pretty telling that there have only been a handful of condo projects despite the incredible amount of development the city has seen this decade.
