My wife and I have bounced around the idea of moving to Milton or Governor's Town Club in Acworth but the long commute and being far away from civilization is a downer. We are now looking at some homes in Chastain. Has anyone lived there? How did you like it? Pros/Cons? Is it safe or do you have to worry about theft because it's in the city? Are there a lot of kids? How is the trick or treating? Is it mostly white... just curious.

Thanks in advance.

My sister did for many years. I lived in nearby North Buckhead.

It's quite safe. They had an organized neighborhood watch and private security when she lived there.

If you can afford to live within the Perimeter, I would highly recommend it, especially if you work somewhere in the city. The city of Atlanta is very nice, vibrant, and full of things to enjoy. I find living in Buckhead to be much more appealing than living in a far-flung area in the suburbs. Buckhead is suburban enough.

I live in Peachtree Heights West, which is just south of Tuxedo Park and Chastain. From what I have seen, Chastain is a nice area. More of the homes tend to be newer than Peachtree Heights West and Tuxedo Park, but they're also relatively more modest. The pros and cons of the area will depend upon your own lifestyle.

I was somewhat concerned about safety before I purchased, but the Buckhead community is very proactive and crime is low. Less than half of the households in Chastain are families with children. I can't comment on the trick-or-treating, as I have been in Chicago during Halloween. The demographics of Chastain are whiter than average.

If you can afford it....do it!

It's a perfect blend of being close to the city and having access to suburban amenities. Great for kids.
