In Canton, we are looking at Soleil a +55 community. What about nearby services? Suwanee seems nice with the park system and all. Any advice? What communities should I avoid and why? I have grown kids so don't care about school situation that much. I like fine restaurants but wonder what is in the areas. THX.

Both communities are great choices for relocating to for purposes of retirement.

Both communities provide access to local and regional outdoor recreational opportunities.

Canton provides access to local outdoor recreational opportunities at the very popular Lake Allatoona and the much less popular but brand new Hickory Log Creek Reservoir.

Canton also provides access to numerous regional outdoor recreational opportunities in the foothills and ranges of the Blue Ridge and Southern Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, Southwestern North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee by way of Interstate 575/Georgia Highway 5-515.

Suwanee provides access to local outdoor recreational opportunities with its local park and recreational trail system as well as at the extremely popular nearby Lake Lanier.

Like Canton, Suwanee also provides access to numerous regional outdoor recreational opportunities in the foothills and ranges of the Blue Ridge and Southern Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, Southwestern North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee by way of major roads like Interstate 985/Georgia Highway 365 and Georgia Highway 400.

Suwanee appears to have a slight-to-noticeable edge over Canton when it comes to access to dining and retail opportunities. But you will more than likely have to travel closer to (if not into) Atlanta (on roads like I-85 and GA 141 from Suwanee; and on a road like I-575 from Canton) to find the best dining opportunities. Though both the Northwestern outer-suburbs (Canton) and Northeastern outer-suburbs (Suwanee) will offer many high-quality dining opportunities, you will just have to know how and where to find them.

I don't know of any 55+ communities in Suwanee. The closest to one might be the condos around the park!

Canton all the way. Nice community with lots of amenities, close to the mountains and further away from Atlanta traffic.
