I think from an ergonomics and safety perspective, having all controls on an ipad is beyond dangerous (even with voice command and heads up display)

The best controls are the ones that you feel and don't have to take eyes off the road.
I think you are exactly right. Touch screens are not very accurate and require a lot more attention than turning a knob. Using muscle memory and tactile response, you don't even have to take your eyes off the road to make adjustments once you know where everything is. But you have to look at that iPad every time. Plus, what happens if it fails and you can't see it anymore? You just lose insight into everything on the car? I don't like those displays either.

If you charge your car at night (they can be automatically set to do this) you'll end up paying a penny a kilowatt hour, meaning the equivalent of a tank of gas is something like a dollar.
Do you know anyone who has made this work? The way GA Power makes this work is by more than doubling power rates for these users during peak times, which are defined as 2p-7pm in the summer. So while you may be charging your car for cheap at night, don't even try to turn on the air conditioner when you come home from work. Seems like you could end up spending a lot more money, but I don't know anybody who has actually tried. I'm scared to roll the dice on that one.

Personally, I’d buy a Nest thermostat, and run the temperature down to 65 right before 2pm to buy you a little time before it’s got to kick in again.

I do know people who do this, it works great.

I mean, if you have a $300 power bill as it is then maybe do some hard math. But if you're a $120/mo person you're potentially spending more on gasoline than electricity anyways, in which case doubling your power bill would likely still be breakeven.

Not that I think normal users would come anywhere near doubling it. You could always adjust your behavior slightly to use less power during the ~10% of the year classified as peak times. And even that hour of running your 3000 watt AC, continuously, from 6-7 PM would only cost 60 cents, which is probably a heck of a lot less than the value of the gas you'd save.

THE OFF PEAK INCENTIVES are mainly for their benefit by delaying when they'll have to spend to add Megawatt capacity.

If they keep the peak demands under control they can avoid big capital expenditures for decades.
