This is an Associated Press article, and how in the world did you infer that Seattle is "pulling" for Atlanta from it?

Otherwise, we'll have to take what we can get. At that point I'd be happy if they just modified Five Points Station to allow commuter and HSR by stacking platforms on higher levels or digging them underground. I really don't care for the idea of putting the MMPT in Doraville, since it's not even in the city. The relocation of the new Amtrak station at Lenox is better, even though it's not centrally located. Anything is better than the current Amtrak station that is literally 100 years old (it was built in 1918).
Yeah, it's not that there shouldn't be development, it's that any development needs to be made in such a way that an MMPT is still possible.

Heck, the most recent designs have towers in built up as part of the main hall. These CIM plans, though, completely remove the possibility by filling in the main hall's location with non-compatible towers, and filling in the track space with a parking garage.

More confirmation that this development will supersede any potential for the MMPT.

Terminal missing from plans to redevelop downtown Atlanta’s Gulch | AJC

epresentatives for the California development team planning a mini-city stretching between MARTA’s Five Points station and Philips Arena said in a public meeting Thursday their plans don’t include a new rail and bus hub. Developer CIM Group, founded by the brother of Atlanta Hawks lead owner Tony Ressler, has crafted a plan for a live-work-play community near the arena, and the land, currently served by two MARTA stations, is one of dozens of sites said to be part of Georgia’s bid for Amazon’s second headquarters.
Just when it looks like the state is gearing up for doing something correct for transit, we go and drop the ball so hard they'll need an army of steel plates to cover up the resulting crater.

Doraville? Screw that. At least for my side of town.

Since the MMPT and a Gulch terminal appears to be dead, what we need to do is get rid of CSX freight forever on the state-owned W&A line, and retire it as an FRA-compliant railroad. Then, under the name of ATL Transit or whatever it's going to be called, double-track it and run a frequent, high quality LRT line on that corridor thru Cumberland and Marietta and Kennesaw or Woodstock (or a line to each). Which, instead of running downtown and using the Gulch, could instead hang a left and use the NW Beltline LRT ROW, and run instead to an Armour or Lindbergh station.

Or, at somewhere around Collier it could tunnel underground and run to Arts Center, via a stop at Northside Dr and Atlantic Station along the way.

OR it could probably still run to Five Points. With the LRT platform on the east side of Forsyth St, not blocked by this project.

It says as clear as day, Seattle times in the web address. My post also said they could be writing about other cities as well. Moreover, it certainty is more pleasure reading from a journalist that actually lives in Seattle, and knows a lot more about HQ1, and then hear about his point of view on this Atlanta site.

The State announced the MMPT project years ago before the governor's election. It had plenty of opportunity to act years ago. Once again much talk and studies but no action. That is definition of insanity right.

It would be insanely stupid for the developer to not even leave a provision for the MMPT at all.

Atlanta development proposal just happens to be Amazon-sized - Chicago Tribune

The exact story is in the Denver Post and other local papers too. If you see an article that says associated Press, it means it wasn’t by the local reporters of the paper.

It seems like Jeff Martin is an atlanta based Associated Press journalist.
