So, is it still snowing up there? Native Floridian, never seen snow... Today's the day (well, tonight). If it's not snowing in Atlanta, how far away is the snow?

Probably for the best. I have no idea how I'd handle seeing it fall.

Tons of ice still on neighborhood and shady parts of main roads here in the Lake Spivey area. Emerald Drive along the south shore of Lake Spivey (super shady, hilly, and winding) is still very treacherous, and it's Friday, two days after snow stopped falling! I'm sorry to disagree, but I think the school systems called it correctly THIS TIME. Even when they don't, I do believe to "err on the side of caution" especially if they story of 600 accidents in Gwinnett County mentioned above is true.

On the plus side: My front yard still looks like a Christmas card! Even if it is for just a few more hours if the temperatures really do climb to the upper 40's / low fifties today.

Even if the streets are not completely cleared, at least, the sidewalks are mostly walkable to get around for the most part in the North.
Maybe it's time for GDOT to purchase more snowplows. Especially if this winter precipitation is becoming more common. Seems like it wasn't that long ago that schools were closed only once every other year or so.

Possibly.

Another option would be the area has a large number of pickup trucks. Time to order some salt spreaders and pay various people to spread some salt/sand around the metro area especially on the secondary streets.

Atlanta native here. When I was in school we were out for snow 2 - 3 times a year, too. I do not feel like we have "more snow days" now. Truthfully, for the last two years we have had LESS. Especially in the City of Atlanta and the southside suburbs. (I grew up in the Forest Park/ Morrow area). I even remember some December snows that kept us out of school several days in the early 90's, kind of like this year.
