Friends Coming Into Town For The Memorial Day Weekend. We're Planning......
My best friend and his wife from the Pacific Northwest are coming to visit us over an extended Memorial Day Weekend. They want to come down and see "The South". Anywho, we only have a few days, so here's what I've cooked up. I just wanted to run it by y'all and see what you thought:
They'll be arriving late Thursday night, so we'll pretty much just hang out at the house and get some rest.
Friday: I plan to take them down to Atlanta for the CNN Tour, the Aquarium, then The World Of Coke. We'll then find a nice, yet not stuffy, restaurant in Atlanta. Might even do Hard Rock Cafe as had been suggested in another thread.
Saturday: Antebellum homes. Even though we live in Mableton, I plan to drive all of us out to Madison, then Athens, and circle back around through Atlanta touring as many Antebellum homes and other assorted sights (any ideas?) that we can muster up.
Sunday: Early church service. Then, we'll head out to Stone Mountain. They really wanted so see that. So, I figured the best time to do that would be Sunday morning/early afternoon, considering it's a Holiday weekend. After that, we'll come back to the place for big ol' rib cookout with all the trimmings.
Monday: The Braves are in town. Looking to do that 1 PM game, then head to the Varsity for some artery slowing grub! Kick back that evening and chill.
Tuesday: Take them to the airport on my way to work.
Sound like fun? Thoughts! Recommendations?
Thanks!

With the exception of your trip to Madison and Athens, it sounds like the identical itinerary of my first visit to ATL. While many on this board don't seem too fond of the downtown area, I thought it to be a neat experience. Having stayed a few nights at the Westin Peachtree (67th floor with floor to ceiling windows ), I'm bummed that I didn't know of the revolving restaurant at the top.
One thing that I've been thinking of doing is the downtown Segway tour. Anybody try it? Also, how is the new Coke museum compared to the old one? Is it worth going to if you've already been to the old one or is it pretty much the same stuff?

I went with my son to the New World of Coke for a summer camp field trip and I was disappointed in the way it was one giant marketing scam - just trying to get you to buy stuff. The only cool part was at the end where you can try all the different sodas Coke makes for other countries. Some of them I wish they sold here in the diet version!
The Aquarium is worth seeing, though.

If you're going to church and to Stone Mountain on Sunday, you may want to kill two birds with one stone (no pun intended) and go to the Sunrise Service there on Sunday morning.

Thanks for the feeback.
OK, well, my wife works for CCE (Coca Cola Enterprises....the bottling arm of Mother Coke), so I guess we HAVE to go to the NWOC.
Yeah, we've been to the Aquarium, as well, and really enjoyed that. I liked the way they themed it. Plus, walking thru that glass tunnel was, like, a real trip, dude.
Oh, and for JPD, we're not doing all this until Memorial Day Weekend, so, FWIW, hopefully CNN is back up and running by then.
My friends don't drink, so top-of-the-Westin is out.
Fox Bros. sounds like fun. I went to their website. I plan to forward that link to my friends and see if they'd be interested.
Thanks, all....................
