If an outer loop is in any way a possibility in the future, they should start planning now.
An outer loop will never happen.

This. GDOT doesn't even want to hear the words "Outer Perimeter" or "Northern Arc" ever again.

The best real hope of anything of the sort, is the widening of SR-20 between I-75 and I-85. But it won't be as a limited access freeway.

It would be nice if some of the intersections could be replaced with overpasses.

Upgrade it to Super Arterial, with interchanges at intersection with other, major state routes and intersections with smaller roads.

Yeah, if they widened 20 and reduced the # of stop lights by maybe 50-75%, there’s our Northern Arc/ Outer Perimeter.

Also the way GA-20 interacts with I-75 needs to be made into an interchange. With maybe at least a short stretch of freeway there, kinda like Freedom Pkwy.

Full, staked interchanges with I-75, GA400, and I-85.

I can envision a super-arterial highway, that's almost but not quite a freeway. Between Rome GA and Lawrenceville @ 316.

Between Rome and I-75, US-411 would be upgraded to a 6-lane, almost-freeway, with minimal if any stop lights. Then a direct full-stack interchange with I-75, and it continues east as SR-20. 6 lanes, minimal traffic signals, high speed limit, to Canton (with maybe 2 traffic lights in the city), simple interchange w/ I-575, then same thing to Cumming, full interchange w/ 400, then as many lanes as possible thru Forsyth and Gwinnett, with simple interchanges at I-985 and 316, and serious full-stack interchange with I-85.

So then maybe in total about half that entire route would be limited-access freeway, which could reflect as such on Google Maps. And it would be basically a new interstate bypass.

That would help Metro Atlanta so much.

What state road between I-75 and 316 would you propose upgrading, without ROW purchasing and demo of existing development?

A Super Arterial like PIB would be awesome but I'm almost certain that NIMBY's would go off as it would begin to close resemble the Northern ARC but it would definitely be better than what we have...

..Who could we propose such an idea to?
