Folks

I live in Farmington Hills,MI my current employer has office in Peachtree City,GA and I am exploring possibility of a different position in the Georgia office. Here is my problem

In Michigan, we are used to living in a place with a dozen indian restruants within a couple of miles, several hundred Indian families close by and atleast a dozen indian grocery stores within half a mile. So my family want to be in similar localities in the Atlanta area as well. My wife is stay at home and is comfortable only with such localities

Based on my research through web, it appears as Asian Indian community is more pre-dominant in the Northern part of Atlanta which will be more than an hour's drive to my PTC office.

Are there any cities with Asian Indian Community closer to Peachtree City,GA>

Default indian communities

I'm not really sure where the indian communities are in Atlanta but they are out here somewhere. I will send you this link to the Global Mall. It is located in Norcross which is in Gwinnett county. I know you want to live on the other side of town, but i would suggest you try to contact somebody on the website and start inquiring. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

I would assume that since that huge Indian Mandir (temple) was built in the suburb of Lilburn not long ago, that there's a large Indian population around it.

Here are some links. A few might be older as the structure is now completed and in use, but they may give you a head start on researching that partiulcar area:

Khabar Magazine might be a good starting point: Khabar : Home (http://www.khabar.com/jsp/index.jsp - broken link)

if you're working in Peachtree City I'd suggest living in fayete or coweta counties. They're close to where you work and are growing.

Hi there, a new Indian grocery store just opened in Tyrone, Ga, so that's atleast one store that I know of. Tyrone is the next town over from PTC. There are Asian Indian families throughout Fayette county, I don't have a percentage, just going on personal knowledge.

There is also a large Indian community with a temple in central Dekalb County in the area of DeKalb Industrial Boulevard between East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Scott Boulevard. It also extends east on Scott (which becomes state Hwy 29) up to and a little beyond North Druid Hills Road. Much of this area is districted to Medlock Elementary and some may be districted to Laurel Ridge Elementary. The middle school is Shamrock Middle and the high school is Druid Hills High. All of these are pretty good schools.

You can check out these schools of greatschools.net.

Good Luck!

My significant other is from Farmington Hills. Welcome to GA :-)

The area with the largest Asian Indian percentage is Duluth. Cobb county also has areas with large groups of Asian Indians. Unfortunately, the commute to Peachtree City from there is untenable. Sounds like you're going to need to be on the frontier :-)

I'd go with the information they gave about where the stores are, and maybe give some of them a ring to see what they know. I imagine there must be enough population around them to support the store.

There is a lot of misinformation in the above posts.

To qualify myself, I am Indian and have been living in ATL for 8 years. The post by cmtiger is correct - most of your quality foods/indian goods are going to be found in that area of decatur off of scott blvd near dekalb industrial. As others mentioned, Norcross has plenty to offer around the global mall area etc.

You are correct however. Most of the Indian communities are clustered in parts of Decatur, Lilburn - for sure, Roswell, Alpharetta, and Suwanee. What you will find is that there are plenty of indians living in Fayetteville and PTC as well. If you have kids, you are probably in good shape to live in PTC as it's very family friendly, and just take a drive whenever you need to get out and stock up. Indian restaurants abound all over the city, by the way.
