Depends on how they define government. State capital helps a lot if it's all levels of the blood suckers.

But yea, if you make a claim it's your job to back it up

Well just going by the numbers here (States With Most Government Employees: Totals and Per Capita Rates) and here (Federal Employees By State), it's not true. We might be somewhere around 7th-9th. Just thought it was interesting.

Nabbing the Futures Command would be excellent.
If you say so bro

This list is by State, not Metro area. Georgia is home to several massive Military bases that are nowhere near Atlanta. And with the exception of the huge Military bases around Hampton Roads, the numbers for Maryland & Virginia are mainly spillover from D.C.

With the exception of NASA, every single Federal Agency and the Federal Court for the Southeast are HQ'd here. If we aren't the second Metro for Federal employment, we are very near the top.

Yea you almost have to throw out Virginia and Maryland because of the DC spillover, but even then other large population states (Florida, Cali, Texas) seem to have us beat. I thought we'd be higher because of the bases too.

Yeah, but again the list posted was by State. Florida has to come through here for everything (except for NASA) before they can reach D.C. on any level.

I would love to see a breakdown by Metro area.

Oh I see.

Here's something that gives a list of metros' federal employees by % and raw numers at the bottom. Atlanta comes in at 7th here:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...=.1b7d0b0917a0

Add in state and local government employees and maybe it would be #2 in the country, due to being a state capitol.
