Safety, schools and protection of their property values. South Fulton housing still hasn't recovered from the recession.

Some because of better schools, and other just have a desire to move up because of a monetary increase. Some blacks also prefer culture diversity and not culture homogeneity where everything is center around a black experience. I have personally experienced some wealthy blacks around South Fulton being some of the most arrogant and hardest people to deal with. No one wants to remain around that type person or community. They may be black outwardly, but prejudice inwardly.

I heard on NPR that the chance for children of upper middle black families to maintain the status is very low. About the same as lower white class to success in the upper class. In other words, it may not be black flight, but that the family's wealth is no longer there.

I think Fayette has lower crime than South Fulton. Or at least the impression of lower crime.

Is this actually happening? I'd like to see a source on migration patterns.

Sorry, correction:

"Indeed, a black child born to parents in the top quintile is roughly as likely to fall to the bottom family income quintile as he or she is to remain in the top quintile; in contrast, white children are nearly ve times as likely to remain in the top quintile as they are to fall to the bottom quintile.". And the difference is largely driven by males.

I need to see some data. I flew over South Fulton a few days ago and was surprised how much red dirt there was in the neighborhoods; I got the impression the area is expanding rapidly.

I have a few group of friends who relocated from South Fulton to Johns Creek. Primary reasons were the schools. Also lack of services in the area. They would have to drive 20 minutes for a decent restaurant, etc
