Bird has arrived in Atlanta.
Quote:
As of today, the Bird system of dockless, electric, lightweight scooters is lifting off in Atlanta as a means of “last mile” trips that link commuters between transit and home—or to anywhere too far to walk, or too close to drive, to. It’s the California-based company’s first foray into the Southeast.

Initially, Atlantans will find Birds in Midtown, Tech Square, downtown, and south of Interstate 20 in West End, but locations and the sheer size of flocks will be adjusted to meet demand.

Just saw one resting at Juniper and 5th! I wondered why it was there and how good the Bird brand was. Didn't get a chance to google at that point. I will definitely give these a try.

I don't like the dockless idea though. It is more convenient but could be a nuisance.

Meh. Proving to be more a nuisance than a godsend in other cities.

Same can be said of cars.

The same could be said about cyclists( who ride on sidewalks and disobey traffic signals) and pedestrians( who jaywalk).

But that's neither here nor there. The issue at hand will be how the city deals with these scooters being left all around town.

This'll last about 3 months. Scooter drivers will cause significant accidents. Scooter drivers will die. Scooters will be stolen. Dumb idea, in my humble opinion.

You may have seen garden variety scooter drivers, Ansley, but you haven't seen what I can do on one yet.

them seem to have lasted longer than that in SF, LA, SD, DC, etc.
Car drivers cause significant crashes everyday, thousands of car drivers die every year, cars are stolen; yet cars are still around.

A bit of hyperbole. If anything it will slow drivers down and force the city to consider all modes of transportation.
