That's why transit here is so difficult to achieve and manage. You have multiple counties which all have to create their own funding mechanisms to go towards the same system, but each has to pay only its part towards whatever. No wonder no one wants to deal with it.

The survey included a question asking people to select their top 3 priorities. The first column is the percent among Atlanta residents who had that project in their top 3. The second column is among all respondents.

Quote:
Percent of Count Project Name Percent of Count Project Name
  1. 53.40% BeltLine Northeast LRT 51.35% Clifton Corridor LRT
  2. 46.51% Clifton Corridor LRT 50.85% BeltLine Northeast LRT
  3. 40.32% BeltLine Southwest LRT 37.02% BeltLine Southwest LRT
  4. 25.34% Station Improvements 27.53% Station Improvements
  5. 23.03% Frequent Local Bus Service 24.62% Frequent Local Bus Service
Note that the Clifton Corridor scores 2nd highest amongst Atlanta residents, and a full 6% higher than Beltline SW LRT.

Their "big ideas" takeaways were: people want more built than is on the project list and more funds need to be identified, people want more of the Beltline than on the project list, and people don't think 2 overlapping projects on Campbellton Road are appropriate.

And that's not going to change under ATL.

I was glad to see MARTA listened to the public and noticed the nonsense of proposing 2 transit projects along Campbellton Rd.

Agree, to an extent. Obviously the ATL was a compromise. It's not ideal, but it's a step forward. Without the compromise, funding for transit in Gwinnett, Cobb, etc. would have been a big challenge. At least now we have some prospects for funding. The next big step will need to be the removal of some of the "locality" demands in favor of a truly regional planning and funding scheme--and frankly that should be true of all transportation, even roads, in the metro area. That's likely at least 5-10 years out though.

Agree. That seems to be one of the consensus positions from a good chunk of the population. We shall see if the influential chunk of the population (read as "politicians") is able to hold on to their override.

Yes, I was very happy to see the survey results and the recommendations (based on survey results) to take another look at Campbellton and redistribute some of that money. It's ridiculous the amount of money being thrown at one corridor.

Just skimmed it, but didn't see a word about the SE Beltline in there. It wasn't on the list so it wasn't one of the survey choices.

No, but supporters could have written it in the comments. MARTA Planning did pay attention to the comments; eg: BeltLine Loop Rail, Campbellton Rd having 2 projects, etc.

It does make me wonder how many pedestrians and cyclists will get hit by the train passing close to such a busy trail and without a barrier. Its a different mentality than a downtown street with sidewalks.

How many have gotten hit by the downtown streetcar? Why do you think peds and cyclists would wonder onto the tracks?
