Cherokee County racism (Atlanta, Alpharetta, Canton: new home, neighborhood, live)

Alpharetta is not in Cherokee County. It is, however, pretty close.

Alpharetta itself is pretty diverse. Cherokee County, however, really depends on which area. The Southern part of the county would have the most diversity.

If you are looking for racism, you can generally find it most places.

Hahahaha Southern California have no racism problem. I live in San Diego while in the Marine Corp and some whites and latinos were not very favorable toward blacks. However, I don’t think any area of the United States is prejudice free in some aspects. You will be fine on Alpharetta.

Like other posters have said, Alpharetta is becoming more diverse. Cherokee County, however, I feel is pretty racist. Very Old South mentality. My opinion.

If you made any visits at all to Alpharetta, Georgia, you'd see all kinds of diversity most places. Atlanta's suburbs go to about Canton Northwest, Cumming North, Flowery Branch Northeast. Alpharetta, is a major suburb of Atlanta with all kinds of services and people from all over the planet there. I think you need to do more research and really visit the area and talk to some of the people there. For the most part you'd never know you're in the southeast.

Alpharetta is not in Cherokee County, however like other posters have said Southern Cherokee and Southern Forsyth are booming right now. TONS of transplants from all over moving in everyday. I think you would be fine in the Woodstock/Holly Springs/Canton area.

Since you're coming from California, you'd know that diversity doesn't mean the absence of racism anyway, and more often than not intensifies different daily racisms because folk think "existing together" without speaking or working with each other is enough. I'm unclear as to your background, but I would say that it's a sign to move elsewhere if you're scared of it before ever experiencing it. That means you need more time to yourself to think about what you want and you need more time to yourself to visit it and see what you want to tolerate. Southern Man's comment is spot on.

I was told by the builder of a house I'm thinking of buying/building. He says that this part of the area is Alpharetta, but the southern most part Cherokee county (Gantt rd & Stone Creek Trail). I really like the area, but its kinda rural, that is why I have a concern

Just a wild guess, but I assume there's a portion of Cherokee County that has an Alpharetta mailing list (even if the incorporated city limits technically is not in Cherokee). That may have been the area the OP was referring to.
