Hello All! I started a new job in Dunwoody, next to Perimeter Mall. I live in West Cobb Marietta zip 30064 right now (close to Dallas hwy/Barrett Pkwy...near Avenues of west cobb). The commute is horrible. In all fairness, that's west cobb. It will always be like that. My child will be starting school in August in a different zone (within cobb) - at Campbell High in Smyrna. Although Smyrna is not on my way to work, but it seems like a better commute to Dunwoody. Thoughts on commute from Smyrna area to Dunwoody? Where exactly in Smyrna should I focus my search to ease my commute. I prefer living in subdivisions (Single Family or townhouse - 3BR) in 300-400K range (needless to say 400K is stretching it).

What are your work hours? For ten years, I drove my children from Dunwoody to Vinings and back every day for school. I was generally driving the Vinings to Dunwoody portion of the trip from about 7:30-8:15. 45 minutes was about right unless there was something horrible on 285 or it was raining. All that construction at the Cobb Cloverleaf slows things down too, and I will add that the construction affects traffic a LOT coming from Dunwoody to Smyrna for your return commute. The buildup starts as early as 2:00 on weekdays and it is NO fun.

My job is 8 to 5. What complicates the situation is I do not have a better half to share any responsibilities. That's the reason I want to move closer to school. And Smyrna being a central location, cuts my commute by little bit anyways. And from what you're telling me, it might cut it in half. It takes me 90-100 minutes right now from west cobb to dunwoody in rush hour. If it gets reduced to 45-60 minutes, thats still a saving.

Yeah, I think it would help, but your drive home will still suck near the 285/75 interchange. Why 285 narrows down to two lanes right there at the Cloverleaf, I have no idea, but it will continue to suck until that changes.

Stay close to or south of Spring Rd/Concord Rd and close to or east of Atlanta Rd. This will keep you within 3 miles of I-285 with options to get on at Cobb Parkway, Paces Ferry or Atlanta Rd.

I generally exit at Cobb Parkway when heading west on I-285 but if there is a lot of traffic I just by pass and go to Paces Ferry.
