Hello All, I am presently in New York and am relocating to Georgia in a few months. In the meantime I found employment in Carrollton and would like to ask this thread if they can refer an area to live in. I'm open to Douglas County, Coweta County or any advice that can be given. Thanks

I think both Coweta and Douglas County would be excellent choices. You will be in much closer proximity to better retail / restaurant options (Newnan is home to a 900,000 sq. ft lifestyle center called Ashley Park, while Douglasville is home to Arbor Place Mall) and you'll have much better access to Atlanta via. I-85 and I-20 when you want to go into the city. Douglasville is 20 miles from downtown, while Newnan is 40 miles from downtown.

Coweta County and Newnan in particular is the fastest growing area in the SW Metro Atlanta area with a ton of new construction. I'm a transplant myself from Michigan who moved here last year and I like it. I also met several other transplants from New York and they all seem to love living here. One in fact settled here because their husband works in Columbus, but yet they still wanted to be close to Atlanta. Also, if you have children, Coweta County does have the better primary and secondary schools compared to Douglas and Carroll County.

That said, Carrollton's not a bad place to live in either. It's a college town, being home to the University of West Georgia and West Georgia Technical College, plus it has a nice, walkable town center. Also, if you're someone who's into outdoor activities, Carrolton has a great 18 mile trail called the "Greenbelt" for walking and bicycling.

Thank you Citidata 18, I appreciate the info. I am looking at the crime data for Newnan and Douglasville. What's ypur opinion on Austell and Lithia Springs as I see decent apartments to rent there as well..

I would probably stick with the Lithia Springs side of Thornton Rd, over the Austell side of things.

Being real close to Sweetwater Creek State Park is a great perk for that area.

Nice reverse commute for you, and easy access to Atlanta, assuming weekend traffic levels.

You're welcome!

Newnan was ranked the #7 safest community in Georgia while Douglasville was ranked #24, out of the top 25. (based on cities with at least 30K people).

As far as Austell and Lithia Springs, I agree with what primaltech said. But they would put you further out from Carrollton than Douglasville and SW portions of Douglas County (adding an additional 10 miles to your commute).

I second the vote for Carrollton itself. Nice college town with a cute downtown and lovely. tree shaded streets of vintage and historic homes.

If you are going to work in Carrollton, why live in another town?
Carrollton is a great town. Come visit and see.
