To better manage ground transportation, security, traffic and other areas, the airport is seeking approval for a budget that includes 12 more positions for the vehicle-for-hire department and six more positions in ground transportation.
If more people would just ride MARTA from Airport to Downtown, then we could invest those funds into other projects.

Sounds like the need for this exists even without the Super Bowl. I imagine most folks coming here are not going to end their journey in Downtown. Thus, MARTA usage would likely not offset the need for these additional resources. Just my thoughts...

Uhhh..is the Atlanta Airport ever NOT upgrading? I have never, one time in my history of Atlanta Airport visit, seen it not under some sort of massive construction project. I think the ceilings are replaced every few months. The escalators are changed out every few weeks. The driveways and parking lots are rebuilt at least once a year. TSA changes things up every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I don't think any part of that structure, minus the steel supports, is older than five years. I honestly cannot remember a time I've gone to the airport and not had to do something different than the previous time, and I used to travel very frequently.

Most people probably aren't going downtown...

In reference to the Super Bowl, they are.

Agreed. Rideshare needs to be much better setup at ATL. It certainly should be more convenient that the parking lots.

Uber/Lyft is pretty new vs the airport with has been around for decades. They cant just build a new road for something that may or may not work out long term. Since hourly parking has to be X amount of feet from the terminal for security purposes, the only realistic fix I could see is making a Uber/Lfyt pickup point in the hourly deck, but would they pay for the airport to do that for them or would you want a bunch of ride share cars clogging up the decks.

They were planning to expand the parking decks but are now reconsidering because the demand for parking is lower due to Lyft / Uber.

They should use those resources to find a better solution for Lyft / Uber instead of the expanded parking.
