Not this year -- we will leave on Sat. morning. Lesson (finally) learned.

It will be that bad. Frankly, normal Fridays are bad, and it almost doesn't matter which direction you are going.
Yeah, every year when 3 or 4 hours have passed (from Suwanee) and I'm still not through Henry County, I always swear that "we will never do this again." Finally, this year, we are leaving on Sunday - I'm not messing with Friday or Saturday this year!

I have a colleague in Indiana who takes his family to Florida on spring break every year without fail. They leave right after school on Friday and drive straight through, normally passing through Atlanta on I-75 around 2am on Saturday. I'm told the traffic is OK at that time of day .

What makes it interesting is when someone naked dangles (no pun) off of an overpass threatening to jump on a Friday - and they almost ALWAYS pick Fridays to do it. Makes things very interesting when traffic backs up 15 miles. Personally I'd just walk up and push them over, but the cops draw it out until they can get them down.

If I'm not mistaken, about 3 years ago someone pulled this on the Spring Break weekend Friday rush. Fun. So make sure and time yourself around the crazy naked jumpers, too.

You may run into some of this or worse. This is southbound I-85 last Friday morning.

b/c of the road work, save yourself the headache and take 75 South to 285 West to 75 South Again (or 85 if you're going to the panhandle).

What a damn nightmare. I remember when I first moved here, thinking if I left work at around 2-3 I would "beat" the traffic on a weekend trip to Florida... ugh how wrong I was. Now, when I drive for a weekend I make sure I leave no later than 12:30.

Here's what I want to know... who was responsible for planning the roads to the north of downtown? When you think about the "design" of 285, 400, and 85 merging with 75... it just makes NO sense. One of the justifications I've heard is that nobody lived north of the city "back then" - but even that explanation makes little sense when you think about only have ONE lane on 400 feed into the larger 285. Even if the population in places like Alpharetta was 500 people, it doesn't make sense to have these one lane feeders - what if an accident happened on that lane? The entire thing would have to close...

Just follow the guide signs that say "Tampa", which would be I-285 West I believe. The west side of the Perimeter (what we call 285 in these parts) has a lot less traffic than the east side and you will also miss the north side of the perimeter which would require you to sacrifice your first born should you dare to traverse on a weekday afternoon.

You are preaching to the choir. GDOT is one of the more inept government bureaucracies that I've ever seen.
