Unhappy What should I do????

I'm under contract with Pulte Homes for my new home that's being built...here is the dilema...I was visiting from New York and saw that the rooms were noticeably smaller then the model I fell in love with....I know the contracts states..measurements on plan are approximate..but I just feel it was misleading because none of the measurements were off in my favor. My house was to be exactly as the model....if anyone has had this experience before....HELP

How far off are the room measurements? Which neighborhood is it? Did you mention it to Pulte, and what did they say? Just as an FYI, the room dimensions shown on a floor plan are typically measured from the middle of a wall to the middle of the other wall (i.e. they are not interior dimensions).

Don't know if this is the case where you are concerned but in my experience model homes are always equipped with all of the upgrades and bells and whistles. This includes larger rooms that are an upgrade and not standard. See what Pulte has to say. I have seen room dimensions differ slightly between one house to another of the same plan in a subdivision. Good luck.

Good luck! If it is 2 or 3 inches, it very well could be that the floor plans do not show interior dimensions... that means that each room would be off by approx. 3.5 inches in each direction (the depth of a 2X4). We found this out when our house was being built. Also, did you actually measure the model, or are you comparing your home to the "floor plan" page they gave you? It could be that your house just looks smaller when in reality it is the same size. While our house was under construction, we thought it looked huge, then tiny, then big, and then normal again!

Also, are you building an Avalon? We fell in love with that floor plan in a different Pulte subdivision!

I felt the same way when I had a home constructed. My mother and I walked through when just the floor layout was painted on the slab and a few two by fours were standing. I was shocked and disappointed at how small everything was. I spoke to a neighbor who had a brother in the construction industry, and he said it was often misleading at that stage--people often thought the rooms seemed smaller when the walls were not yet up.

When the house was finally finished, I was surprised how it now seemed larger. My mother thought the rooms were now huge! Anyway, that was my experience --I hope everything works out for you.

Are you saying that the rooms are smaller than the dimensions shown on the floorplans, or that they're smaller than the actual model home? I find it hard to believe that there are 2-3" discrepancies between the model and the production houses, especially from Pulte- they build the same house literally thousands of times, and taking a few inches out of a room would require revising kitchen layouts, etc.- not something that typically takes place especially with tested floor plans like the Avalon.

From the floor plan....as far as the model home..we didn't get in to measure, but by eyesight it looked much smaller then the model home....my agent was visiting a week prior and said someone else was complaining of the same thing...and thats before I got down there and made my observations. Pulte Corporate office is sending a representative do investigate...will keep u posted.
