I wonder how long they'd last? Seats would be ripped up, and they'd be "adorned" with gang graffiti in no time.

I remember MARTA trains had cushioned seats, now they are all hard plastic. My dream came true!

A matter of practicality. BART trains have cushioned seats, and they are filthy. They are being replaced as well.
