Your loft living in Atlanta is popular, and becoming more so every day. The loft areas are Midtown, Buckhead, Downtown, and the hot, new, and very expensive Atlantic Station, and some suburban areas are incorporating lofts into their geography. Downtown hasn't really caught on for living yet, it's still more of a working/business area, and a ghost town at night unless something is going on. Some of the lofts used to be schools and factories, and the areas they are in are still "up and coming", so choose carefully. You could have wharehouse lofts full of young couples and professionals on one block, and two blocks over homeless. It all a part of the gentrification process. Sometimes it's smart to buy in these areas if you're brave enough; in five years it could be the most desirable neighborhood around, and you'll get a fortune on your investment return.

Castleberry Hill is THE premiere loft neighborhood in Atlanta. Nothing but young professionals and artists live in the area. There are several art galleries and restaurats in the neighborhood too. Its located just west of Downtown Atlanta. The neighborhood itself is safe and semi-affluent but the surrounding areas are in the process of gentrification, which would be attricative to a buyer, as it would caue home prices to increase in the future.

Another area of true loft style homes in the Candler Park/Inman Park/Little Five Points area. Many of these lofts are actually in historic buildings and are surrounded by some of ATlanta's most eccentric neighborhoods. It could be a very fun place to live for a young couple and is located just east of Midtown.

Atlantic Station is new, so the lofts are not in historic bulding or in a historic area. But, the area is VERY nice and they won't need a car to do alot of their shopping and dining which is very attractive. Lofts in Atlantic Station are two storied and are above the retail shops like Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle, and Guess. Because the location is fantastic, the prices start in the 700s and go up from there. There are condos in ATlantic Station at cheaper prices though, in the 300s-400s range.

I attached a link to the housing map put out by Central Atlanta Progress. It shows all the complexes within the downtown area. The buildings with lofts usually have smaller units and have been renovated (instead of new recent construction). Castleberry Hill is included in this map. You might want to also look at Old Forth Ward or along the Marietta Street Corridor (including north of downtown and west of GaTech).

There is also a map for midtown put out by the Midtown Alliance but their lofts are going to be new construction instead of renovated stuff.
